Wil je meer weten over de Nyingma traditie van het Tibetaans Boeddhisme? Nyingma betekent ‘de oudste’ en verwijst naar Nyingma als de oudste van de 4 scholen van het Tibetaans boeddhisme. Daarop zinspeelt de titel van de film “Prayers of the Ancient Ones”.
De film werd gemaakt door Pema Gellek, één van Tarthang Tulku’s dochters en speelt zich vooral af in Bodh Gaya, India rond de plek waar de Boeddha verlichting bereikte en waar sinds 1989 de Nyingma Peace Ceremony plaatsvindt.
De film Prayers of the Ancient Ones neemt ons mee op reis naar Bodh Gaya, India, de heiligste plaats van het boeddhisme waar de Boeddha verlichting bereikte onder de Bodhiboom. Elk jaar reizen meer dan 10.000 Tibetaanse monniken, nonnen en lekenpelgrims uit de hele Himalaya-regio om te bidden voor wereldvrede en hun erfgoed te bekrachtigen in het licht van overweldigende uitdagingen en verlies. Dit is het verhaal van een heilige plaats, een verbannen volk en de immense inspanningen van een Tibetaanse lama om de Tibetaanse cultuur te herbouwen. Prayers of the Ancient Ones is een majestueuze getuigenis van de schoonheid en de kracht van het werken vanuit je hoogste aspiraties ten behoeve van alle wezens.

Would you like to learn more about the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism? Nyingma means “the oldest” and refers to Nyingma as the oldest of the 4 schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This is what the title of the film “Prayers of the Ancient Ones” refers to.
The film was made by Pema Gellek, one of Tarthang Tulku’s daughters and is primarily set in Bodh Gaya, India around the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment and where the Nyingma Peace Ceremony has been held since 1989.
The film Prayers of the Ancient Ones takes us on a journey to Bodh Gaya, India, the holiest site of Buddhism where the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Each year, over 10,000 Tibetan monks, nuns and lay pilgrims travel from all across the Himalayan region to pray for world peace and affirm their heritage in the face of overwhelming challenge and loss. This is the story of a sacred place, an exiled people and a Tibetan lama’s immense efforts to restore Tibetan culture. Prayers of the Ancient Ones is a majestic testament to the beauty and the power of working from one’s highest aspirations for the benefit of all beings.
